What Is a Clinical Exercise Physiologist?

I'm a Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CEP) but don't be fooled by the name, although I'm specialised in exercise prescription, my treatment focus is on education and energy management to stabilise and improve patient symptoms, promote independence, predictability, and overall quality of life.

CEP's are University trained practitioners with a minimum of an Undergraduate and Master's Degree in rehabilitation. Traditionally CEP's are trained to assess patients with chronic health conditions and musculoskeletal injuries in order to create tailored management strategies for improving their health and/or injury.

Conditions That I Treat

As someone living with dysautonomia and fatigue myself, I went down a unique pathway of specialisation and ongoing development to treat using education via a patient led approach. With personal experience under my belt, years of tertiary education, and specialist training in both Australia and the UK, I have been able to develop a bespoke program to help those living with invisible illness.

The most common conditions that I treat are:

  • Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome/ Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS/PoTS)
  • Orthostatic Intolerance (OI)
  • Dysautonomia
  • Hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (hEDS)
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (CFS/ME)
  • Post viral fatigue
  • Long COVID/ Post-acute Sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC)
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Persistent Pain
  • Central Sensitisation

The ExPhysEm Pledge:

1% of the cost of every ExPhysEm initial consultation goes toward raising awareness and support for those living with chronic challenges. Every patient has the opportunity to choose one of five non-profit charities they would like their consultation to support. To find out more about this, jump across to the sessions and pricing page.

A Word From the People...

"I think the overall lesson Emily has taught me is that living with a chronic illness can be more about the living than the chronic illness. I'm now able to focus on life and it feels full of possibilities again. ❤️"

Kate, England

"I wish I had found Emily sooner after my POTS diagnosis as there are a lot of strategies that I could have employed earlier and could have managed setbacks like COVID much better."

Lisa, Southern Ireland

"Sessions with Em improved my quality of life not just through physical therapy but also by giving me something to look forward to."
